AI Response Language

Control which language Yukkai uses when generating responses.

Overview

Yukkai's AI Response Language determines the language the AI uses when it replies to you. This is separate from the interface language (the language of buttons, menus, and labels in the app). The two are completely independent — you can use the interface in English while having the AI respond in French, Japanese, Spanish, or any language supported by the active model.

By default, Yukkai's AI responds in whatever language you write in. If you type a message in French, the AI replies in French. If you switch to English, it replies in English. This is natural language behavior — there is no hard-coded response language in the system prompt.

However, you may want the AI to always respond in a specific language, regardless of what language you write in. Yukkai provides persistent rules for exactly this purpose.

How it works

Natural language mirroring

Out of the box, Yukkai does not enforce a response language. The AI follows your lead:

You write in English → AI responds in English
You write in French → AI responds in French
You mix languages → AI typically matches the dominant language

This happens organically because language models are trained to mirror the input language. No setting or toggle controls this behavior directly.

Persistent rules for fixed response language

If you want to lock the AI to a specific language, you use a persistent rule. Persistent rules are instructions injected into the AI's context on a regular schedule. They override the natural mirroring behavior.

A rule like:

Always respond in English regardless of the language I write in.

…ensures every reply is in English, even if you type in Japanese, Arabic, or Portuguese.

Priority levels

Rules have two priority tiers:

Priority	Reinjection frequency	Use case
High	Every 10 messages	Response language, critical formatting
Normal	Every 20 messages	Preferences, soft guidelines

For language rules, high priority is recommended so the instruction stays fresh in the AI's context and is never forgotten mid-conversation.

How to use it

Set a fixed response language

Open the Yukkai conversation where you want the rule applied.
Ask Yukkai to create a rule, or use the rule management action directly:

Add a rule: "Always respond in English regardless of the language I write in."
Set priority: high

Yukkai will confirm the rule has been created. From that point forward, every response will be in English.

View your active rules

To see all rules currently in effect:

List my rules

Yukkai will display each rule with its ID, content, priority, and enabled status.

Temporarily disable a rule

If you want the AI to revert to natural mirroring without deleting the rule:

Toggle rule off (ID: <rule-id>)

The rule stays saved but is not injected into the conversation.

Re-enable a rule

Toggle rule on (ID: <rule-id>)

Delete a rule permanently

Remove rule (ID: <rule-id>)

Examples

Example 1: Always respond in English

Rule content: Always respond in English regardless of the language I write in. Priority: High

Result: You can write in any language — French, Chinese, German — and the AI will always reply in English.

Example 2: Always respond in French

Rule content: Always respond in French, even if I write in another language. Priority: High

Result: Even if you type in English or Spanish, responses come back in French.

Example 3: Multilingual workflow

You work with a team across three languages. You want the AI to always respond in English for consistency, but you're free to write in whatever language is fastest:

Rule content: Always respond in English regardless of input language. Priority: High

You can now dictate in French, paste articles in German, or chat in Spanish — the AI processes everything and replies in English.

Tips

Interface language ≠ Response language

Switching the Yukkai interface to German (via Settings → General → Language) does not make the AI respond in German. The interface language only affects menus, buttons, and labels. To control the AI's response language, use a persistent rule.

Use high priority for language rules

Language instructions are easy for the AI to "drift" away from during long conversations. Setting the rule to high priority ensures it is re-injected frequently enough to stay active.

Rules are per-context

Persistent rules apply across conversations within your Yukkai session. If you notice the AI responding in the wrong language, check whether a rule was accidentally toggled off.

Mix freely

You can combine a language rule with other rules. For example:

Always respond in English (high priority)
Use concise formatting (normal priority)

Both are honored simultaneously. The AI will respond in English and keep responses short.

No language picker needed

There is no dropdown or toggle in Settings specifically for "AI response language." This is by design — the AI mirrors your input by default, and you override that behavior with rules when needed. This gives you more flexibility than a fixed language picker, since you can support languages far beyond the six interface languages (English, French, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, German, Portuguese).
